#ItTakesRoots to Grow the Resistance

Grassroots Global Justice Alliance (GGJ), Climate Justice Alliance (CJA), Right to the City Alliance (RTTC) and Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) are teaming up for the It Takes Roots to Grow the Resistance Delegation from January 18-21, 2017 and Trans-Local Actions in the first 100 days of the Trump administration.

Every day the landscape continues to change on a national level.  The appointments Trump has made for his administration are clearly an assault on all the gains that people of color, women, immigrants, LGBTQ communities, and workers have fought for.  This will have implications locally, nationally, and globally for years to come.   Now is the critical time for a resistance movement to be visible and strong, on the defense and the offense.

The #ItTakesRoots to Grow the Resistance delegation is our response to this broader call to action.  #ItTakesRoots comes out of previous delegations made up of Indigenous, people of color, women and queer, and frontline communities that have been at the forefront of fights against racism, Islamophobia, misogyny, and hate.  It was originally named as part of collaborations between Indigenous Environmental Network, Climate Justice Alliance, and Grassroots Global Justice Alliance from the Peoples Climate March to Paris COP21 to the Caravan from the RNC to the DNC.

#ItTakesRoots to Grow the Resistance consists of four components:

1. Training Labs to serve as cross-space initiatives for organizers to share post-election solutions, assessments and models; build skills and collective strategies; strengthen trust and relationships across organizations.

2. Strategy Conversations amongst our members and close allies on how we orient towards and past the first 100 days of a Trump administration.  Our members will share their assessment of the current moment from various sectors, and offer ideas for building strategic alignment and visionary opposition in the coming period.

3. Mobilization in the Streets of DC on January 20 and 21.

4. Coordinated Trans-local actions in the streets in 5-7 cities within the first 100 days of a Trump administration, utilizing coordinated framing with the trainings, mobilizations and actions in DC, anchored by members locally, and in solidarity actions globally.

This is an opportunity to strengthen the grassroots organizing basebuilding organizations, and to also help us be in joint conversation and practice with those we want to build deeper relationships with in this moment.  We hope you can join us in DC or at any of the trans-local actions!
