GGJ MEMBERSHIP ASSEMBLY FEBRUARY 26-28, 2010 MIAMI
See you in sunny Miami, the home of the Root Cause Alliance that fought against the FTAA and the home of our host organization the Miami Workers Center!
This year is a big one for GGJ as we are celebrating our 5th year as a membership alliance and the 10th anniversary of the World Social Forum.
We'll be bringing international allies from the Hemispheric Social Alliance and the World March of Women, as well as resource allies from Movement Generation and War Times to discuss opportunities for convergence at the US Social Forum and beyond.
Arrival and Departure: Your delegate(s) should expect to be at the assembly for the full time beginning Friday, February 26 at 9am through Sunday the 26th at 1pm. Coordinating Committee Members and Facilitation Team should arrive in time for prep meeting on Thursday February 25 from 1pm – 5pm.
Agenda: The Facilitation Team – Joo-Hyun Kang, Jorge Glackman, Jen Soriano, Cindy Wiesner, Michael Guerrero, Steve Williams, and Mónica Cordova – will send a draft agenda for input the first week of February. If you would like to join the agenda committee please email cindy@ggjalliance.org
Subsidies: GGJ will cover airfare, lodging and food during the meetings for one representative of your organization. We are limiting participation to 3 per organization. We ask that at least one of your representatives be a person who is playing an active leadership and decision-making role in your organization.
Airline Travel Subsidy: West Coast and Southwest $350, Midwest and Northeast $300, South $250. NOTE: If you do not make travel arrangements with Jo Ann (see below) by Feb. 15, your airline travel subsidy will go down by $75.
Airline tickets: You can fly into Fort Lauderdale Airport or Miami International Airport. We will provide transportation to and from the airports. We have contracted with Jo Ann Gutierrez Bejar to purchase airline tickets for the membership assembly. Please send her your preferred itinerary, she will do her best to accommodate the request but she will look for the best prices for the ticket.

Lodging: We are working with the Miami Workers Center to identify lodging and a meeting location. We will send that information once we confirm it.
Registration: Return the attached registration form to cindy@gggjalliance.org by Friday, January 29. There will be a registration fee of $50 per organization. This will only partially offset the costs of the logistics for the Assembly.
Membership Dues: If you have not paid your dues for 2010 please do so ASAP. You must be a member in good standing in order to vote. If you are not able to do so due to financial limitations, please contact either cindy@ggjalliance.org or michael@ggalliance.org

Asamblea de la Membrecía

Estamos orgullosos de anunciar que Miami Workers Center serán los anfitriónes de la asamblea de la membrecía de GGJ el 26-28 de Febrero, 2010. Esta será una reunión crítica y muy emocionante en el desarrollo de GGJ. Estamos alistandonos para celebrar nuestro 5to aniversario como alianza de miembros, nos da gran orgullo de tener nuestra asamblea en el lugar original de la Alianza de Root Cause quienes lucharnon en contra del ALCA. Por los últimos 10 años, el Miami Workers Center ha hecho trabajo organizativo alrededor de reforma del welfare, vivienda y el derecho a votar, justicia racial, en contra del desalojo, por el desarrollo económico, y comercio justo. Ellos han sido portavoces en contra de la guerra y el imperio, avaricia, políticas racistas. e iniciativas discriminatorias contra inmigrantes y la comunidad LGBTQI. El Miami Workers Center, es una organización fundadora de la Alianza Right to the City y recientemente una iniciativa electoral en todo el estado, Florida New Majority. Florida del sur es también la casa de Coalition of Immokalee Workers que han tomado exitosamente y han ganado campañas contra corporaciones trans-nacionales como Taco Bell y Burger King. Nosotros tenemos una series de aliados locales que hacen un gran trabajo organizativo y que invitaremos a la asamblea: Power U Center for Social Change, South Florida Jobs with Justice, Take Back the Land, y Florida Immigrant Rights Coalition. Algunos de los objetivos para la asamblea son de repasar nuestro plan estratégico de 20 años y hacer recomendaciones en áreas y prioridades de trabajo por el año próximo, trabajo sobre nuestro programa politico de GGJ para el Foro Social de los E.E.U.U., y eliger a nuevos miembros del comité de coordinación. En las próximas semanas, enviaremos una compilación de documentos para leer.
Enviaremos información detallada sobre logística más adelante. Hasta entonces aquí están algunas detailes:
Subsidios: GGJ cubrirá el viaje, el alojamiento y el alimento durante las reuniones para un representante de su organización. Limitamos participación a 3 por organización. También contraeremos una agencia de viajes para coordinar los pasajes.
Llegada: Estamos pidiendo que lleguen a Miami el 25 de Febrero.
Departura: Estamos pidiendo que sus representantes permanecan hasta la 1 pm el domingo, 28 de Febrero. Necesitaremos los 2.5 días completos para terminar todo nuestro trabajo para esta reunión.
Registro: Habrá un honorario de registro de $50 por organización. Esto compensará parcialmente los costos de la logística para la asamblea. También estamos preguntando que usted paguen sus cuotas anuales antes o dentro la asamblea.
Agenda: El comité facilitador concluirá una agenda detallada en las semanas próximas y la enviará vía E-mail. La asamblea comenzará puntualmente el viernes 26 de Febrero a las 9 am y acabará a la 1:00pm el domingo 28 de Febrero
