Day 3: Senegal

Last night, our delegation planned to meet at 7AM. My roommate and I had set our alarms at 6AM. We heard the alarms at 6AM but turned them off. The next thing I remember is my roommate's phone ringing, and we both jumped up. It was 8:08AM. Oops... We hurriedly got ready and met up with our group. We made the last 10 minutes of the meeting.

WSF 2011 Opening March

Today was the opening day of the 2011 World Social Forum in Dakar, Senegal. As we approached the starting point of the march, I could feel the electricity in the air. The streets buzzed with action. Excitement mounted with each step towards the march. Cabs zipped back and forth, dropping off small groups of people.  Local merchants moved through the crowd with clothes, jewelry, and other products in hand, hoping to capture someone’s attention. Bus loads of activist and organizations poured into the growing mass of chanting participants.
