DemilitaRISE is a working group bringing together GGJ members who are involved in grassroots organizing or people impacted by U.S. militarism, both at home through police and ICE violence, occupied Indigenous lands, racial profiling, mass incarcerations and detention, and globally from war-impacted communities, as well as veterans enduring grave trauma.

Feminist Abolitionism, along with About Face’s framework of the ‘Many-Legged Monster of U.S. Militarism,’ have been aligning frameworks to understand how interconnected our different struggles are to one another.

DemilitaRISE is building shared alignment across our members, growing our collective political power as we work together to advance a divest/invest strategy to directly move resources away from police, prisons, the Pentagon, and war, and invest in Black, Brown, and Indigenous-led restorative justice, reparations, community leadership, and collective healing. The work of demilitaRISE is a core pillar of GGJ’s shared work toward building a Feminist, Anti-racist, Regenerative Economy (FAREconomy).

Join the No War No Warming Call to Action:

Ask your legislators to take action to divest militarization and invest in peace and climate action!

“I believe a future free of prisons, police and militaries is possible if we come together in the years ahead to build on the foundations our ancestors have established and dare to dream and create as much as we resist and dismantle. Abolishing the deep cultural militarism and dismantling the military industrial complex will require us to deeply question and unlearn the same logic that lies at the heart of policing, prisons, anti-immigration agencies and beyond. We must reject this common logic that tells us that violence somehow makes us safe, that cages somehow maintain security, and that wars somehow create peace.”

—Brittany DeBarros, About Face

“The transformation of our communities today are birthed from our abolitionist dreams! So having a world free from prisons, police and poverty is a dream I know we will one day see.”

— Siwatu-Salama Ra
