Grassroots Global Justice Alliance condemns the murder of Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis mother of three, by occupying ICE officer Jonathan Ross, who fired multiple shots into her vehicle. When community members attempted to offer medical aid, ICE agents threatened to shoot them as well.
This federally-sanctioned violence is terrorizing our communities and tearing families apart under an authoritarian pretext of security. We know that militarized policing endangers public health and safety, and that what our communities actually need is investment in quality jobs, full healthcare, and affordable housing — solutions we draw on in our People’s Care Agenda.
As Minnesotans mobilize against this horrific murder and the militarized federal response, we want to echo these points from folks on the ground:
- ICE raids are targeting the Minneapolis Somali community, a disgusting show of racial profiling rooted in xenophobia and anti-Blackness.
- The Trump administration is dismantling social safety nets and scapegoating immigrant communities for broad economic problems to fear-monger and consolidate the MAGA base.
- Neither the people nor the elected leaders of Minnesota asked for or want an ICE occupation of their cities, with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey demanding that “ICE get the f*** out of Minneapolis.”
- We need ICE out of our communities immediately — each day the occupation continues increases the risk to our people. One day after murdering Renee, border patrol agents shot two more people in Portland, Oregon. This needs to stop!
