Flexible Location: GGJ’s team has worked remotely for 15 years. During COVID-19 travel restrictions, all of our programming and organizing work is happening remotely/online. Once travel is not deemed a public health risk and restrictions are lifted, travel will be required for this position on average 5 days per month in the US, and 5-10 days per year internationally. While the position is remote, employee must be based in the United States.

Compensation: $60,000-$65,000. This position is full-time with potential for long term based on evaluation after 3 month introductory period.  Benefits including health, dental, vision and life insurance begin on first month after date of hire, and includes generous vacation.

Position Summary:  This position will lead seasonal grassroots fundraising efforts; write and submit grants and reports; lead internal communications and systems; design visuals for digital and printed materials. Applicants must have a strong ability to build relationships with integrity and humility, work independently, forecast and plan multiple projects several months in advance, attention to detail as well as big picture political analysis, and consistent communication while working remotely. This position will report to the GGJ Director of Resource Development and the Director of Communications.

Job Responsibilities

Communications Responsibilities (50%)

  1. Lead GGJ internal communications and digital organizing:
    1. Work with Organizing Team to maintain consistent documentation of activities about progress, opportunities, and connections.
    2. Keep GGJ website updated on a regular basis.
    3. Work with IT/ISP vendors for website maintenance and updating needs.
    4. Coordinate overall e-blast calendar.
    5. Manage creation of GGJ accounts and logins for staff.
    6. Participate in regular comms team meetings.
  2. Maintain & Improve GGJ internal communications systems, lists, etc.
    1. Keep email list, database & list-serves updated with current contact info for members, staff and allies on a weekly basis.
    2. Integrate new member contacts from programs.
    3. Ensure functioning systems for internal staff communication.
    4. Maintain GGJ’s supporter and ally list growth; coordinating list exchanges, updating, and segmenting existing supporters in our database.
  3. Develop imagery for organizational materials
    1. Create graphics for social media, website, e-blasts, flyers
    2. Layout printed materials as needed (flyers, reports, letterhead, business cards, etc)

Development Responsibilities (40%)

  1. Lead Seasonal grassroots fundraising efforts
    1. Create materials (writing and layout of mailing appeals, e-blasts).
    2. Coordinate 1-2 donor mailings per year; Coordinate with mailhouse to send out appeals; Create mailing lists for donor mailings.
    3. Communicate with GGJ donors via email and phone, occasionally in-person.
      1. Send acknowledgement letters and personal thank you’s to donors.
    4. Participate in regular development team meetings.
  2. Support grant writing 
    1. Coordinate with Director of Resource Mobilization on writing & submitting grant proposals and reports.
  3. Support member fundraising for key programs as needed (1-2 times/year)
    1. Support members to create fundraising pages
    2. Support fundraising orientations leading up to member fundraising campaigns

Participate in GGJ team (10%)

  1. Active and timely response on all communications (email, phone, texts, messaging apps, etc.).
  2. Attend weekly virtual meetings with staff, members and allies.
  3. Participate in and support preparation for quarterly staff meetings, annual Coordinating Committee meetings, and other events and convenings as necessary.
  4. Compliance with GGJ remote working policies and procedures (calendaring, availability online, response time to communications, receipts, etc.)

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 3 years of grassroots fundraising and/or communications experience.
  • Experience with development and/or comms roles in Black & Brown led organizations.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication with remote team.
  • Friendly, outgoing, personable approach to communication.
  • Experience in multi-racial, multi-generational, multi-cultural settings.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and Database management (ideally Powerbase).
  • Knowledge of common computer applications: MS Office, Google docs, Dropbox, and Zoom video tele-conferencing systems.  
  • Ability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends), including communicating with allies in other parts of the world in different time zones.
  • Willingness to travel (when permissible according to COVID-19 travel restrictions): average 5 days per month in the US, and 10 days per year internationally.
  • Driver’s license and liability insurance.

Preferred Experience

  • Graphic design skills for digital and print materials.
  • Experience using social media & web development tools: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WordPress.
  • Ability to read, write and speak other languages besides English, preferably Spanish or Portuguese.

Director of Resource Management

Position Summary:  This position will lead strategies for Resource Development and Funder Organizing for GGJ and in collaboration with sister organizations, supervise development staff and contractors, support financial management and elevate the visibility of GGJ members within philanthropy. Applicants must have a strong ability to build relationships with integrity and humility, work independently, forecast and plan multiple projects several months in advance, attention to detail as well as big picture political analysis, and consistent communication while working remotely. This position will report to the GGJ Deputy Director.

Job Responsibilities

Lead Overall Development Plan (50%)

  1. Coordinate GGJ Development Team
    1. Manage grant calendar and funder relationships.
    2. Guide individual donor fundraising plan & messaging.
    3. Set multi-year and annual goals.
    4. Plan & facilitate regular development team meetings.
    5. Coordinate two 4-week volunteer phone-banks per year: Create call lists, Support and orient staff and volunteers, Track results & coordinate follow up.
  2. Supervise Communications & Development Organizer
    1. Training and mentorship on grassroots fundraising and donor relations.
    2. Guide seasonal grassroots fundraising campaigns.
  3. Lead Grant writing
    1. Write & edit grant applications and reports, ensure timely submissions.
    2. Create concept papers for new projects or events.
  4. Lead Prospecting Strategies
    1. Family Foundation Prospecting: Research Family Foundations; attend events to represent GGJ and build relationships with potential funders.
    2. Experiment with Mobile Giving and Online Fundraising strategies.
  5. Coordinate with C4 fundraising infrastructure (to be determined).

Lead Funder Organizing Strategy (20%)

  1. Coordinate GGJ’s participation in funder organizing initiatives.
  2. Coordinate GGJ’s representation in philanthropic spaces as needed.
  3. Represent GGJ on It Takes Roots Development Team to coordinate with sister alliances.

Support Financial Management (20%)

  1. Support Deputy Director with Budget management & planning.
  2. Work with staff to support their understanding and ownership of budget needs for programs and work areas.
  3. Participate in finance meetings every other week.

Participate in GGJ team (10%)

  • Ability to write and speak English.
